If you have already entered into a civil partnership
in another country, you won't have to register the partnership
again in the UK as long as long as the law of the country
in which the union took place meets the requirements set out
in the Civil Partnership Act (Schedule 20). Schedule 20 recognises
certain overseas unions as equivalent to civil partnerships
under the laws of the United Kingdom. Same-sex couples who
have entered into those unions are automatically recognised
in the United Kingdom as civil partners.

In November 2006 the Federal District's legislature
approved a law that reconises rights for "partners
of the same-sex". It does not allow for adoption
by same-sex cuples nor is it "equivalent" to
marriage. The law grants inheritance and pension rights.
